Kamal and Oscars: A Dream Still Alive

Kamal Haasan who is also know as Ulaga Nayagan now got the new title Mr. Cinema. He is one of India’s most talented and respected actors. With a career spanning over six decades, he has acted in more than 200 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. Kamal is not just an actor—he is also a writer, director, producer, and even a playback singer.

His passion for cinema and storytelling has won him millions of fans, but one dream still remains: winning an Oscar.

Though Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan has never won an Academy Award, his work has received international praise. His 1987 film Nayakan, directed by Mani Ratnam, was India’s official entry to the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film. The film did not make it to the final nominations, but it is still considered one of the greatest and Legendary Indian movies ever made.

Ulaga Nayagan’s dedication towards cinema is unmatched. He never thinks twice to take bold steps in storytelling, experimenting with themes and roles that most actors avoid. In Indian (1996), he played a dual role, including that of a 70-year-old freedom fighter. The film was also India’s official Oscar entry that year. Again, it didn’t make the final cut, but it proved Kamal’s commitment to artistic excellence.

Having a very big dream for Oscar, Kamal is now being one of the crew member for Oscar’s voting. Academy awards personally invited Mr. Kamalhaasan among 534 individuals for the voting process.
