Kollywood, one of the best film industry which produced many talented actresses over the years. While some of the best actresses received the fame and recognition they deserved, a few others did not get enough credit for their outstanding work. These women played an extraordinary and powerful roles, showed great acting skills, and left a mark on the audience.
Let’s look at four such under-credited actresses in Kollywood.
- Urvashi (Show Stealer)
Urvashi, one of the brilliant actress in indian cinema known for her comic timing and emotional depth. She began her career in a very young age. In early 1980s she started acting in many Tamil films like Munthanai Mudichu, Michael Madana Kama Rajan and Magalir Mattum.
Though she won awards and was loved by audiences, Urvashi was often not given lead roles in many big-budget films. Her versatility is still admired by many top actors including kamalhaasan who is known as Mr. Cinema. Even today, when she appears in supporting roles, her performances are praised, but the credit she truly deserves is often not given.
- Revathi (The Navarasa Queen)
Revathi is one of the finest actresses in Indian cinema. She has worked in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi films. In Tamil cinema, her performances in films like Mouna Ragam, Pudhumai Penn, and Anjali were remarkable and also out of the box. Revathi is a combo of Best Acting & Dance. More than that she was an excellent dubbing artist too.
Her contribution to Tamil cinema was immense, but mainstream recognition was not always offered in the way it should have been.

Rohini is a multi-talented artist—an actress, writer, and dubbing artist. She started as a child artist and later acted in many meaningful roles in Tamil films. Her performances in movies like Magalir Matum, Virumandi and many other movies were deeply emotional and realistic.
Still, she did not receive the kind of fame that her talent deserved. Her work is respected in film circles, but the general audience often overlooks her name. Many of her characters left a strong impact, but her name rarely appears on star lists.
- Suhasini Maniratnam
Suhasini, wife of director Mani Ratnam, is an award-winning actress and filmmaker. She acted in memorable films like Sindhu Bhairavi, Nenjathai Killadhey, and Amaram. Her acting was powerful and sensitive. While critics always praised her, she didn’t receive the same stardom as many of her peers.
